Local jobs boost with Brothers Leagues Club expansion

Excitement is building as Brothers Leagues Club commences work on a major redevelopment, creating 150 local jobs during construction, with expanded facilities for members and guests.

The not-for-profit sporting group announced the plans Monday after the development application was approved by Cairns Regional Council late last week.

The project will provide an immediate boost to the local economy with local sub-contractors to be utilised according to Group General Manager Shane Fitzgerald.

“Designed by Rubicon, we will utilise local sub-contractors wherever possible,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

“This was a key part of our brief to Rubicon and we expect this will be equivalent to 150 full-time jobs during construction, with a further 30 ongoing jobs created directly with Brothers once the project is complete.

“The use of local trades aligns to our community values in the operation of sport and providing support to the Far-North Queensland community.

“Since 2019, Brothers Leagues Club Group has contributed more that $5 million in support to local sport and the community.

“This redevelopment will be a further boost for our economy, while at the same time providing world class social facilities for our 30,000 members to enjoy!”.

The upgrades include a brand-new café, featuring a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Fratelli’s (which translates to brothers in Italian) will be inspired by European alfresco design, offering an abundance of natural light created from new floor to ceiling windows positioned along the expanded Anderson St and English St corner.

The café will offer a modern dining experience with Mediterranean inspired cuisine including pizzas, all-day grazing, light options and delicious coffees, snacks and treats.

A new dedicated sports bar will also be added in the upgrades. The new Q Bar will feature dedicated seating for punters and sporting enthusiasts, with a big-screen video wall for racing and live sports, plus TAB and sports betting facilities.

Lanterns Buffet Restaurant will also be refurbished, while the gaming lounge footprint will be expanded to provide increased space and comfort, including a lounge area surrounding the Shamrock Bar.

The upgrades will commence in October and are expected to be completed by mid-2022.

Mr Fitzgerald said the major redevelopment by Rubicon would be complimented by improvements on level two of the club.

“We recently commenced work on our “Dreams” function room. This space is currently undergoing a complete transformation, with relocation of our amenities to create a brilliant new open function space featuring floor to ceiling windows.

“These works are expected to be completed and open before Christmas, providing access to new modern function facilities for members and guest to mark celebration such as birthdays, engagement parties or weddings.”
