Brothers Celebrates LNP’s $6 Million Commitment for Manunda Stan Williams Project

Brothers Leagues Club Cairns has welcomed the announcement by the state Liberal National Party (LNP) of a $6 million commitment to assist in the completion of the new Community Sport and Event facility at Manunda Sports Precinct should the party be elected to Government.

The LNP commitment to Stage 2 of the Stan Williams Park development would complement the $12 million investment by Brothers Cairns that covers the total cost of Stage 1. Importantly, both project stages will become a 100% community owned asset upon completion.

Club Chairman Stephen Widt said the funding would ensure the full value of the facility is delivered to the benefit of the Cairns and regional community.

“Completion of the facility will allow the Club to further expand our broad range of grassroots community programs, which focus on providing equitable access to sport, healthy activity and education for all.”

“Our programs are partnered by key Cairns community organisations and schools, with a particular focus on building new opportunities for female participants, people of all abilities and First Nations peoples.”

“The Club thanks the LNP and local candidate Yolonde Entsch for their support for the project,” Widt said.

LNP Leader David Crisafulli said the LNP would invest $6 million to complete the build, if elected on October 26th.

“Far North Queenslanders are passionate about their rugby league and the Manunda Sports Precinct is a gamechanger for Cairns.

“Our commitment to this project will help it reach its full potential and is part of a plan to deliver a sporting legacy across Queensland ahead of 2032,” Mr Crisafulli said.

LNP Candidate for Cairns Yolonde Entsch said the funding commitment by the LNP was a major investment for the region.

“The Manunda Sports Precinct is designed to cater for a broad range of sports and its modern facilities will attract larger events and competitions,” Ms Entsch said.

“Cairns will be back on the map as a serious contender to attract more sporting competitions, school carnivals and prime time fixtures.

“Brothers Rugby League Club Cairns have worked extremely hard to get this project off the ground and I’m delighted a Crisafulli LNP Government would invest in the precinct to make it become an elite sporting venue,” Entsch said.
